Mini Hearts Crochet Garland

Quick and Easy Beginner Crochet Garlands, pt. 1: Hearts Garland [2–2.5 hrs]

New to crocheting and already tired of making simple single crochet blankets? SAME! I learned to crochet about a year ago and started simple with a huge single crochet temperature blanket (a post for another time). While I love it, and it is such a cozy blanket, I wanted to step my skills up a notch, without jumping straight to an intense stuffed animal. Enter, the crochet garland!

Not much of a crocheter? My crochet garlands are also available for purchase here!

Why garlands?!

  1. Quick and easy — Crochet garlands are a great project for any skill level, including beginners. The ones I mention in this article are quick and easy to make and with practice you can generally get one done in a night!
  2. Customizable — They are easy to customize (color, theme, length, etc).
  3. Practical — Garlands can be used in so many ways: party decor, holiday decor, nursery decor…the list goes on. You could also use it to spruce up a present or gift bag — who doesn’t love reusable gift wrap?!
  4. Rewarding — Nothing beats the joy of hanging or gifting your handmade work of art!

Materials You’ll Need

  • Yarn — I prefer using light-weight (3) 100% cotton yarn, but you can use whatever type of yarn you prefer.
  • Hook — I use a 4mm hook (size G/6). But be sure to check which hook is recommended per the yarn you choose.
  • Scissors and tapestry needle for weaving in ends.

Hearts Garland

This is a fun one to customize — baby shower? fun pastels. valentines day? red & pink. The possibilities are endless!

Putting It All Together

Organize your hearts & circles in the order you want for your garland.

Start with a tail long enough to hang your garland.

Chain 21. Single crochet into heart/circle. Repeat this until you have all of your pieces on the chain.

After adding your last piece to the chain, chain 21.

Fasten off & leave an equally long tail on this side.

This is a great garland to start with and build up your confidence. Remember, the best part of making these garlands is the creativity you pour into the project. Play with fun colors, yarn types, etc and don’t forget to post your photos in the comments — I can’t wait to see what you make with this pattern!
